This English as a second language (ESL) class provides a safe place to discuss contemporary issues, learn others’ opinions and ask questions, while expanding your vocabulary and improving your spoken English. Designed for intermediate to advanced speakers, Barbara and Codi lead discussions ranging from politics to mental health to things to do in Madison. Students choose the topic studied each evening. On January 23, Barbara will include options to read and discuss famous quotes on values, taxing livestock gas emissions, and volunteer opportunities in Madison. Codi’s classes include games that reinforce English grammar with readings and other activities. Both formats will help you improve listening, speaking, and comprehension skills.
Codi has taught English classes online to Chinese students, while living in French-speaking Canada. Barbara works in the Madison schools as a bilingual resource teacher. She has lived and worked in Switzerland, and studied in Mexico. Their experiences living abroad motivate them to volunteer their time to help people from other countries feel understood and welcomed in Madison.
