The Bible Doesn’t Say That

Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m.

More Than We Can Handle

Wednesday, October 2 at 9:00 p.m., livestream at 9:00 p.m.
1 Corinthians 10:13
“God won’t give me more than I can handle.” Sounds good, doesn’t it? God does protect us and watch over us but notice how this phrase subtly suggests that we can handle things. God provides our way out.

This Too Will Pass

Wednesday, October 9 at 9:00 p.m., livestream at 9:00 p.m.
James 1:2-4
“This too shall pass” is an expression very similar to “time heals all wounds.” This phrase is not found in the Bible. The Bible does remind us that God gives us blessings even through our difficulties.

God Helps Those

Wednesday, October 16 at 9:00 p.m., livestream at 9:00 p.m.
Romans 5:8
“God helps those who help themselves.” This common idea has a hidden danger—it makes us a part of the good things that happen to us. This truth is appealing to our sinful nature, but we have no power to help ourselves.

Money Is the Root

Wednesday, October 23 at 9:00 p.m., livestream at 9:00 p.m.
1 Timothy 6:10
“Money is the root of all evil.” Money is neither bad nor good. How we view it makes all the difference. Not money, but the love of money is the root of evil. Our riches are found in Jesus.

Hate the Sin; Love the Sinner

Wednesday, October 30 at 9:00 p.m., livestream at 9:00 p.m.
Ephesians 4:15
While this one is not directly in the Bible, the Bible does make clear that we are to love people and love the truth of God’s word. When we speak the truth in love, we are faithful to God’s direction.
