Making the Case for Apologetics in This Strange Post-Christian World

Rev. David Thompson, director, ELS Center for Apologetics & Worldviews

Christian apologetics is the discipline of providing evidence for the truth of Christianity, including the truth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, the only Redeemer from sin, death, and the devil. At our workshop on February 1, Pastor Thompson will address:

  • Is apologetics consistent with Lutheran doctrine?
  • Is the Christian faith defensible? Should it be defended?
  • Do we find examples of apologetics in the Bible?
  • Who would benefit from apologetics? How can apologetics be used with our children, relatives, friends, neighbors, co-workers, enemies?
  • How is apologetics important in a culture undergoing rapid and radical worldview* changes?

*A worldview is a set of assumptions by which a person views the world. It is like putting on a particular pair of glasses that, depending on the lenses, determine how a person sees the world and life. A worldview addresses concepts such as God, religion, creation, origins, man, ethics, sin, life, death, the afterlife, purpose, truth, language, history, corruption, order, beauty, marriage, sex, gender, education, science, art, vocation, authority, progress, suffering, etc. A biblical/Christian worldview is to be all inclusive.
